Work Inspiration Masterclass
Jill Coates – Manager Eyre Futures Inc, Jenny Knight – HR Manager for Whyalla Aged Care Inc, Claire Webber – Industry Research/Liaison Officer for Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association, Renee Preece – Community Affairs Advisor for BP Australia Pty Ltd and Andrea Broadfoot – Local Employment Coordinator (Port Augusta, Whyalla, Port Pirie) all recently attended a Work Inspiration Masterclass for Employers. This was held on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and was facilitated by Work Inspiration and Australian founding partners – The Smith Family, The Foundation for Youth and National Australia Bank.
Participants were involved in a two day intensive workshop during which they heard presentations from employers, like National Australia Bank, McDonalds and cluster Agri-Industries, who have already delivered a pilot project to school students, in the hope that the employers present would be inspired to partner and do the same.
Work Inspiration is a new approach to Work Experience, employer led and focussed on three insights:
- About Me – the young person explores personality, interests and potential
- Behind the Scenes – the young person has an experience which takes them behind the scenes with employers and employees
- Careers Happen – the young person reflects on the way in which careers happen, not necessarily a “linear” journey or a “career for life”.
The group pictured are looking forward to an opportunity to partnering with interested local schools to develop a Work Inspiration Model for young people in our communities in 2014.
