Innovative Community Action and Flexible Learning

Funded by the SA Government (DECD), the ICAN program aims to keep young people engaged with school through case management and a range of flexible learning options.

Eyre Futures provides case management services, brokerage and delivery of flexible learning programs through a range of partnerships with other education providers including TAFE, Tauondi College and schools.  This direct service to youth currently operates under EFI in Port Lincoln, Whyalla and Ceduna.

Innovative Community Action Networks (ICAN)

“We strive to support young people in addressing barriers and assisting them in setting and achieving goals which meet their vocational and career interests”.

A wider view of learning, ICAN embraces the uniqueness and individuality of each young person. Flexible Learning Plans reflect this by catering to the needs, interests and aspirations of each individual young person. Whilst schools retain primary responsibilty for education and support services, many FLO students are learning in a range of different settings, depending on their needs and interests.

By taking a wider view of learning, many young people are accessing their learning beyond the school walls. Community partnerships support this innovative approach to learning, which may be delivered in schools; Tafe SA; Registered Training Organisations; youth organisations; community groups; health agencies; or in business and industry workplaces.

Previous ICAN Programs included Journey to Respect Program and Young Parenting Program.

Flexible Learning Options (FLO)

“We will strive to provide success in a program designed and planned with you “.

What is FLO about? Most young people successfully stay at school and complete year 12. Some young people struggle with staying on for many different reasons. For some young people, they don’t see school as relevant, or they have relationship difficulties, or there are health issues that make it difficult for them to learn at school. Flexible Learning Options (FLO) ensure ALL young people have the chance to successfully complete school and get the qualifications they need for a job.
